Page 1 of 4 Plans of my Suunto Interface cable, I have built about 20 of them now they work great even with laptops/PDA`s! PROJECT BRIEF Build a Suunto Stinger/Vyper/Mosquito serial interface that works with a laptop and/or PDA.
CONCEPTS Yes, I know you can buy an interface from Suunto. But it is rather expensive and there really isn’t much to it; only a simple 2 line serial interface. So I set about, surfing the net looking for ideas, concepts and information. After looking at many websites, and circuits I finally stuck to the one below (from http://www.geocities.com/scubadiver_roli/english.html)
ELECTRONICS There is a detailed description on the above website of how the circuit works, but basically is adjusts the voltage levels from the dive computer to higher values for the computer serial port to use! The electronics are universal, irrespective of what dive computer you have. I have successfully used it with a Stinger, Vyper, Mosquito, but should work with almost all Suunto`s; running on several different laptops and an HP Jornada 680.
